An elderly pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a taxi in Stockport on Monday afternoon. Emergency services were called to Shaw Heath, near Stockport train station, at approximately 3pm following reports of a collision involving a taxi and an 81-year-old man.
The injured man sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the taxi driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Images from the scene showed multiple police vehicles and ambulances responding to the incident, which caused significant disruption and led to the closure of the road in both directions.
A police spokesperson stated:
"Further details about the collision have not yet been confirmed."
No arrests have been made at this stage, and police inquiries remain ongoing. The North West Ambulance Service has been approached for a statement regarding the medical response, but no additional information has been released so far.
The incident adds to growing concerns around pedestrian safety, especially for elderly individuals, in busy urban areas.
