A Slough taxi driver has been fined and had his licence revoked after being caught offering illegal taxi services in Reading. Mohammad Qaiser Ayub, licensed as a Dual Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver by Slough Borough Council, was convicted for plying for hire outside his permitted area.
On 24 February 2024, Reading licensing officers conducted an undercover operation to identify unauthorized taxi services. Ayub, stationed outside the Grosvenor Casino, accepted a £40 fare to Slough without a pre-booking, violating private hire regulations.
During an interview under caution, Ayub denied any wrongdoing.
A court official stated:
"Mr. Ayub was found guilty of illegally plying for hire and has been penalized accordingly."
On 3 March 2025, Ayub was convicted at Reading Magistrates Court. As a result, he was ordered to pay £788 in fines and costs, received six penalty points on his driving licence, and had his dual licence revoked by Slough Borough Council on 4 March 2025.
