A recent roadside check of taxis and private hire cars in Inverness city center by Police Scotland and Highland Council has resulted in two vehicles facing enforcement action. The operation, which took place on April 25, involved stopping 30 vehicles to ensure compliance with safety and licensing regulations.

During the checks, several infringements were identified, primarily related to passenger safety and comfort. Issues such as seatbelt usage, vehicle flooring, and the age of the vehicles were flagged. As a result, "numerous warnings were issued" to the drivers involved.

Despite the violations, the majority of drivers were found to be adhering to licensing requirements, with their vehicles deemed roadworthy and their documentation in order. Mark McGinty, trading standards’ team leader, stated:

"Once again, we are pleased to be working with our partners at Police Scotland to ensure that the standards required of drivers and operators are being met and licensing conditions are being complied with."

He added, "From a trading standards perspective, we are pleased at the high level of compliance with only two vehicle checks resulting in enforcement action."

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain safety and legality within the taxi trade, ensuring the continued well-being of both the local community and visitors to Inverness.
