A motorist has been jailed for causing the death of a popular Tenby taxi driver, Christopher “Mukka” Boyle, after a fatal road traffic collision in September 2024. Mateusz Sikorski, 30, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Swansea Crown Court on Friday, November 8, after being convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.

Details of the Incident

The tragic event occurred on September 2, when Sikorski was driving on the wrong side of the A4139 between Tenby and Penally. CCTV footage revealed that Sikorski had been traveling for at least half a mile in the wrong lane before colliding head-on with Boyle, who was driving his private hire taxi northbound. Boyle, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:32 pm after suffering multiple traumatic injuries.

Prosecutor Dean Pulling recounted Sikorski’s comments at the scene, where he admitted responsibility: “I think it may have been my fault, I think I was on the wrong side of the road.”

Court Proceedings

In the sentencing, Judge HH Geraint Walters KC described the case as one of the most difficult that courts have to deal with. “This wasn’t a momentary crossing onto the other carriageway; you were traveling along there for at least half a mile,” he remarked, emphasizing the recklessness of the incident.

Sikorski had been staying with friends in Manorbier at the time of the accident. His defense lawyer, James Hartson, argued that Sikorski had shown genuine remorse and accepted full responsibility for the tragic death of Boyle.

Tributes to the Victim

Christopher Boyle, known affectionately as "Mukka," was a beloved figure within the Tenby community. The loss has been felt deeply by friends, family, and residents who described Boyle as a devoted father, son, and brother. A heartfelt family statement read in court highlighted the lasting impact of his death:

“The loss of Chris has been absolutely devastating. His death has left a profound void that can never be filled.”

Boyle’s sister spoke of the pain caused by the death of her brother and the wider emotional toll on their family. “For Christopher’s children, they have lost a dad. Chris was a much-loved character within the community. His loss has left a hole in the hearts of so many.”

Tributes have also flooded in on social media, with local residents remembering Boyle as a caring and reliable taxi driver who was always there to help others.

Impact on the Community

The death of Chris Boyle has caused a significant impact in Tenby and surrounding areas. As a local taxi driver and private hire driver, Boyle was a familiar and trusted figure within the community. His sudden passing has left many in shock, with friends and customers alike sharing their grief over the loss of a man who was not only dedicated to his work but also deeply involved in his community.

The incident has sparked conversations around the importance of licencing and ensuring the safety of drivers on the road, particularly for private hire drivers like Boyle, who spend long hours behind the wheel serving the public.
