Nottingham City Council is launching an 18-month trial for a new taxi rank at the city’s railway station. The trial will begin on February 3rd, 2025 , and continue until August 2026 . The main aim is to improve accessibility, with a designated area for eight wheelchair-accessible taxis on Carrington Street , located near the front of the station.
Changes to Existing Taxi Services
As part of the trial, the current taxi rank on Trent Street will be reduced, and a new pick-up and drop-off bay will be introduced. Outside Loxley House , the existing five-minute waiting bay will be replaced with a space for disabled badge holders and wheelchair-accessible taxis.
Changes in Taxi Operation Routes
Once the new rank is open, taxis will enter Carrington Street via Arkwright Street and exit through Canal Street . There will be no U-turns allowed on the street. A new "feeder" taxi rank will be added on Arkwright Street , providing space for an additional eight wheelchair-accessible taxis.
Cycle Lane Modifications
The council will remove the advisory cycle lane markings along Carrington Street , though cyclists will still be able to use the road as a quiet route.
Call for Public Feedback
The council is encouraging local residents and visitors to share their feedback on the proposed changes. Councillor Neghat Khan , leader of Nottingham City Council, emphasized the importance of public opinion:
"Following feedback from disabled residents and residents with young children, we are trialling a new taxi rank close to the front of the station to improve accessibility."
The first six months of the trial will be an "objection period," where the public can voice their concerns or suggestions.
