Pony.ai teams up with Emile Weber to trial Level 4 autonomous robotaxis in Luxembourg, advancing its European self-driving ambitions.

Pony.ai has received regulatory approval to begin testing Level 4 autonomous vehicles in Luxembourg, marking a major milestone for the company’s expansion into Europe. The permit, granted by Luxembourg’s Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, allows Pony.ai to operate self-driving robotaxis on public roads, representing a significant move toward advanced autonomous mobility in the region. This approval follows the company's recent expansion efforts, including the establishment of its European research and testing hub in Luxembourg in September 2024.
The approval follows a series of strategic steps by Pony.ai, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Luxembourg government in March 2024, aimed at fostering innovation in autonomous transport solutions. >”This milestone followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Luxembourg government in March 2024.”

Dr. James Peng, co-founder and CEO of Pony.ai, emphasized the company’s ambitions:
"We are proud to be one of the first companies to receive a testing permit in Luxembourg."
Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, acknowledged the progress:

Founded in 2016, Pony.ai has become a leader in autonomous vehicle technology, with testing operations in China, the U.S., South Korea, and now Luxembourg.
