Pony AI introduces autonomous taxi services, connecting key transport hubs in Guangzhou for a seamless and efficient travel experience.

Pony AI Inc., a global leader in autonomous mobility, has launched paid self-driving taxi services in Guangzhou, China. The company is now the first and only provider of robotaxi operations connecting Guangzhou’s city center with two major transport hubs—Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Guangzhou South Railway Station. This expansion comes as Pony AI continues to advance its autonomous vehicle technology, with plans to extend its robotaxi services into Hong Kong’s AV future as part of its broader growth strategy.
This marks a significant step in the commercialization of autonomous mobility, offering a convenient, efficient, and high-tech travel solution for both residents and tourists. The expansion highlights Pony AI’s growing influence in integrating self-driving technology into large, complex urban environments.
Convenient and Accessible Autonomous Rides
The new service allows passengers to book a fully autonomous taxi using the PonyPilot App, with fares aligned with standard Guangzhou taxi rates. This makes it one of the first commercial services in China where self-driving taxis operate on high-demand routes with regulated pricing.
Dr. James Peng, co-founder and CEO of Pony AI, emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating:
"Our latest expansion in Guangzhou marks another major step in making autonomous mobility a part of everyday life. By offering autonomous rides from the heart of the city to key transit hubs, we’re providing practical, real-world services which meet the needs of travelers and city residents alike."
With this expansion, Pony AI aims to offer a seamless and technologically advanced alternative to traditional taxis and ride-hailing services, improving urban transportation in Guangzhou.
High Demand for Robotaxi Services in Guangzhou
The transport hubs covered by Pony AI’s new service are among the busiest in China.
- Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has been the nation’s leading airport in passenger volume since 2020.
- Guangzhou South Railway Station recorded over 170 million passengers in 2024, making it China’s most frequented high-speed rail hub.
By offering self-driving taxi services on these critical routes, Pony AI is addressing the increasing demand for efficient and reliable urban transportation.
Pony AI’s Expansion and Future Plans
Pony AI has already introduced similar robotaxi operations in Beijing, connecting passengers to Beijing Daxing International Airport and Beijing South Railway Station. The simultaneous expansion in Guangzhou and Beijing demonstrates the company’s commitment to scaling up its commercial robotaxi services.
Founded in 2016, Pony AI has positioned itself as a leader in autonomous vehicle technology. Its Virtual Driver system integrates proprietary software, hardware, and AI-powered decision-making, allowing self-driving vehicles to navigate urban environments safely.
The company has also expanded its presence globally, with operations in China, Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East. As autonomous mobility continues to evolve, Pony AI remains at the forefront of developing commercially viable self-driving solutions for modern cities.
