A 21-year-old van driver reached speeds over 80mph in a residential Nottinghamshire area, crashing into a taxi after a high-speed police pursuit. The incident unfolded late on October 30, as Nottinghamshire Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Owday Lane, Worksop. Officers suspected the driver was disqualified, prompting the chase.

According to police reports, the driver sped onto Liquorice Lane, ignoring orders to pull over. The van, driven recklessly, headed toward a densely populated area of Worksop, where speeds exceeded 80mph, alarming residents and putting road users at risk.

Collision with Taxi and Arrest in Worksop

The situation escalated as the van ran a red light at the Gateford Road junction, veering onto the wrong side of the road. The driver’s evasive maneuvers led to a collision with a taxi on Watson Road, temporarily halting the vehicle. However, the driver attempted to escape by ramming police vehicles surrounding him.

West Bassetlaw Police detailed how officers strategically boxed in the van, swiftly removing the ignition key and placing the driver under arrest. The man faces multiple charges, including driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, failing to stop, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and other licensing violations.

Police Efforts to Enhance Road Safety in Bassetlaw

Inspector Rob Harrison of Nottinghamshire Police commended officers’ teamwork and dedication in safely ending the chase. "Our roads policing unit, crime team, and neighborhood officers worked together to stop this dangerous driver and keep the public safe," he stated. No injuries were reported from the collision with the taxi.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns over dangerous driving and vehicle licensing compliance in Bassetlaw. Inspector Harrison urged residents to report road safety issues to neighbourhood policing teams, reinforcing a commitment to making the roads safer for all.

The pursuit involved both the Roads Policing Unit and Road Crime Unit, emphasizing the need for effective intervention in vehicle-related incidents, particularly those involving unlicensed drivers and private hire vehicles like taxis.
