A taxi driver from Clipstone has been sentenced after crashing his vehicle while under the influence of cocaine. The incident occurred on August 30 at 7:50 PM on Mansfield Road. Jamie Fairless, 28, was observed by police exhibiting signs of being intoxicated, including dilated pupils and unusual jaw movements.

After the crash, an off-duty police officer found Fairless' wallet containing 1.15 grams of cocaine. He tested positive for the drug at the scene and was later taken to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder. A blood test revealed he was four times over the legal limit for cocaine.

Becky Allsop, prosecuting, noted:

"Mr. Fairless is somewhat fortunate not to face a more serious charge of drug driving."

Vicky Clarson, mitigating, explained that Fairless had no recollection of the events leading to the crash, only remembering being at home before waking up in an ambulance. She mentioned there were questions about whether Fairless may have suffered a seizure while driving.

This case follows a pattern of incidents involving impaired taxi drivers, as seen in a similar situation where a driver was charged after being caught drunk at a petrol station.

Fairless admitted to the charges and was fined £384, given a £154 surcharge, and disqualified from driving for 12 months. He now has a chip inserted to monitor his heart health, as part of ongoing medical care.
