A safety inspection in Ribble Valley found multiple taxis with serious defects, leading to suspensions. Authorities urge drivers to maintain vehicles and passengers to stay vigilant.

A taxi safety crackdown in Ribble Valley led to three vehicles being taken off the road due to serious defects. The joint operation by Ribble Valley Borough Council and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) inspected 11 taxis, including hackney carriages and private hire vehicles. According to reports on unsafe taxis pulled from roads in Ribble Valley spot checks, these inspections aim to uphold passenger safety and ensure compliance with regulations.
Safety Defects Found in Three Taxis
Three vehicles were found with major issues. One hackney carriage had two tyres below the legal tread depth, while a private hire vehicle from Blackburn with Darwen had an insecure passenger seat. Both were suspended until fixed. Another private hire vehicle had a faulty indicator and an ABS issue, repaired within six days.
Council Stresses Passenger Safety
Councillor Ian Brown stated:
"These regular checks help maintain safety standards and remove vehicles that don’t meet the grade."
Passengers were advised to check drivers’ ID badges for safety.
