Uber drivers in Blackburn and Darwen are facing ongoing delays in joining the platform, with onboarding now expected to begin no earlier than late March or April. The setback follows Uber's acquisition of a five-year private hire operator licence in Blackburn and Darwen on 12 November, which initially raised hopes of a swift registration process.
Repeated Postponements Frustrate Drivers
Local taxi drivers have been attempting to register with Uber since November but have encountered continuous delays.
A communication sent to drivers acknowledged the issue:
"Our latest estimate is that we will be unable to begin onboarding drivers until late March or April."
Uber has apologized for the inconvenience but has not provided a clear reason for the delay:
"We realise this additional delay is disappointing and we apologise for the inconvenience."
Lack of Explanation Leaves Drivers in Limbo
Despite growing frustration among drivers, Uber has offered little clarity on the cause of the delays.
"We are unable to provide any further information on the reason for the delay, however, we will update all Blackburn drivers when this timeline improves."
Taxi drivers in the region remain uncertain about their future with the platform as they await further updates.
