Uber Eats Reaches One Billion Deliveries in the UK, Supporting Local Businesses and Couriers
Uber Eats has achieved a significant milestone, completing one billion deliveries across the UK in under ten years. The landmark delivery was made in Birmingham from College Fish Bar, a well-known local takeaway. To commemorate the occasion, the customer who placed the order is being awarded £5,344 in Uber Eats credit—equivalent to a year's worth of takeaways. The courier who delivered the order will receive a free year of Zenion e-scooter or e-bike rental, complete with insurance and maintenance.
As Uber Eats continues to expand, it is also exploring autonomous food delivery through partnerships with companies like Nuro. This initiative aligns with the platform’s broader goal of innovation and efficiency in the food delivery sector.
The Role of Couriers and Small Businesses in Uber Eats' Success
Uber Eats credits its achievement to the thousands of couriers and over 70,000 restaurant partners it collaborates with. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a key role, comprising more than half of the restaurant partners on the platform. By providing access to a broad customer base, Uber Eats supports these businesses in expanding their reach and increasing their revenue.
Matthew Price, Uber Eats UKI and Northern Europe regional general manager, stated:
"Reaching our one billionth delivery in the UK and Ireland is a huge milestone, made possible by the hundreds of thousands of couriers and over 70,000 restaurants we partner with—many of them small businesses."
Takeaway and Grocery Trends in the UK
Beyond restaurant orders, Uber Eats has become a preferred platform for grocery deliveries. Milk ranks as the most frequently ordered grocery item, followed by bananas, water, and cucumbers. Essential household products such as tissue rolls, kitchen towels, and foil are also among the top-selling items.
As Uber Eats continues to expand, it aims to diversify its offerings beyond food delivery and introduce sustainable choices for both restaurant partners and customers.
