Uber Japan and Japan Post are testing a parcel delivery service using ride-hailing drivers, aiming to enhance logistics efficiency and provide additional earnings for drivers in Kaga.

Uber Japan and Japan Post Co. have announced a partnership to test a new parcel delivery service using ride-hailing drivers. The initiative aims to utilize drivers’ waiting times for deliveries, optimizing efficiency in urban logistics. This move comes as Uber’s Q4 revenue beats expectations, reflecting the company's ongoing expansion and adaptation in various markets.
Trial Launch in Kaga
The pilot program will begin in March in Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture, where Uber-supported ride-hailing services have been operational since last year. Currently, 35 drivers are registered.
Economic and Logistical Benefits
The initiative is expected to provide additional income for drivers while helping Japan Post explore alternative delivery methods.
Kaga Mayor Riku Miyamoto stated:
"We need to facilitate efficient flows of goods and people."
