Angus Council has announced a new survey aimed at gathering insights into the availability and experiences of wheelchair accessible taxis in the area. The survey is designed to understand how well these taxis meet the travel needs of individuals with mobility impairments. The research will be conducted in partnership with the TAS Partnership. Similar efforts to assess and improve accessibility have been seen elsewhere, including in North Yorkshire’s taxi licensing policy proposed changes for WAVs, which highlight the growing focus on improving wheelchair accessible vehicles.
Target Audience and Participation
The survey is open to individuals who have personal experiences using wheelchair accessible taxis, as well as family members, carers, and friends who may accompany someone on such journeys. Additionally, representatives from organizations or groups that help clients with mobility issues are encouraged to participate.
Angus Council spokesperson stated:
"We want to understand more about passengers' experiences with wheelchair accessible taxis, and how effectively they meet different travel needs."
Survey Details and Accessibility
Accessible taxis, which are designed to accommodate passengers traveling in wheelchairs, often feature special modifications to support individuals with specific mobility or sensory impairments. This survey seeks feedback on the effectiveness and availability of such vehicles in the Angus region.
Participants can complete the survey online through the survey link, or request a hard copy through several accessible options. These include contacting the licensing team via email or phone, or picking up a copy from local public libraries and ACCESS offices.
The survey is available from February 18, 2025 to March 17, 2025. The council is urging individuals and organizations to spread the word to ensure that people without routine access to social media are included in the survey.
Angus Council representative added:
"We would also encourage people to raise awareness about the survey among individuals and groups who may not have routine access to social media platforms so we can hear the views of as many people as possible.”
