FREENOW, London’s leading taxi app, has introduced an exclusive bonus for female taxi drivers in celebration of International Women’s Day. The initiative aims to encourage more women to enter the industry and provide an inclusive transport service for passengers. Similar efforts have been seen across the UK, such as a women-led taxi firm launched in Bradford to ensure safety for all. Female drivers who register with FREENOW by March 31st will receive a £500 bonus and benefit from a 0% commission rate for their first six weeks on the platform.
Supporting Women in the Taxi Industry
The initiative is part of FREENOW’s broader efforts to support female taxi drivers by offering flexible and rewarding earning opportunities. In addition to financial incentives, FREENOW provides its drivers with benefits such as accident and sickness insurance, parental leave, and discounts on electric vehicle charging through partnerships with OVO and bp pulse.
Calls for Industry Action
Nour Rasamny, Head of Operations at FREENOW UK, emphasized the challenges facing the taxi industry:
"With black cab vehicle numbers at a 40-year low and only 1.5% of London’s black cab drivers being women, we urge TfL and the Mayor of London to take action to attract more drivers to the profession."
This move underscores the need for long-term solutions to sustain London’s black cab industry while promoting diversity.
