Waymo to Test Self-Driving Cars in 10 New Cities Starting in 2025

Waymo is expanding its testing of robotaxis to 10 new cities in 2025, with a focus on improving its autonomous technology in various environments and conditions.

Waymo, the autonomous vehicle company owned by Alphabet, will begin testing its self-driving cars in 10 new cities starting in 2025. The tests will include Las Vegas and San Diego, although the vehicles will be manually driven by humans. Less than 10 cars will be sent to each city for this phase.

Current Operations and Future Plans

Currently, Waymo operates a commercial robotaxi service in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The company plans to expand its service to Austin, Atlanta, and Miami in 2025. However, it has not confirmed whether any new cities will see a launch of the robotaxi service.

Testing in Harsh Conditions

In 2024, Waymo also conducted tests in Michigan and upstate New York to assess its technology in colder, harsher winter environments.

Waymo representative stated:

"We will send less than 10 AVs to each city, where they will be manually driven."
